NT Quest Day 176 - Romans 13

Scripture:

Romans 13:

8Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.

Observation:

Love is a debt.  It’s a debt that we owe to each other.

Personally, I don’t like debt.  I don’t like the idea of owing anyone anything.  We’ve got one credit card and we pay it off every month.  As far as we can help it we like to stay out of debt.  Not a big fan.

There’s one problem.  Truthfully…I am hopelessly in debt.  Remember that old praise chorus you used to sing in youth group?  It was one of about four that we used to sing over and over.

He paid a debt He did not owe, I owed a debt I could not pay, I needed someone to wash my sin away And now I sing that brand new song: Amazing Grace For Jesus paid the debt that I could never pay

I am in debt to Jesus.  I could never do what he did on that cross and I will never be able to repay him.  Never.

Application:

So how do you and I even begin to repay Christ for his sacrificial love?  By loving others.  Why?  Because that’s what love does.  Jesus loved us.  His love drove him to the cross and held him there for our salvation.  The only way we could even come close to repaying that debt of love is to love one another.

His love will always be greater than ours.  Something to think about when it’s difficult to love someone else.  Our debt to him…will never be paid in full.  Our debt to one another…must never be paid in full.  Based on Jesus love for us we must always love one another.

Like it or not.  We all are up to our eyeballs in debt.  A debt of love.  To Christ.  To each other.

Prayer:

Pray that your love for others would be ever increasing!  Just like your love for Christ.
