NT Quest Day 173 - Romans 10

Scripture:

Romans 10:

9That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”  12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Observation:

Two important components here.  Confession (with your mouth) and Belief (in your heart).

So what do you confess?  “Jesus is Lord”  None other but him.  So what do you believe?  “that God raised him from the dead”  The resurrection is crucial to our belief and salvation.

1 Corinthians 15:17 says:  “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.”  He is different from any other religious leader.  He alone is no longer in the grave.

Therefore following Christ is more than just a philosophy or religion…it’s the only way to truly be saved.

Application:

Anyone can say that they follow God.  Anyone can say that they serve the Lord Jesus.  But only true followers of Christ are not only willing to say it but also believe it.  Live it.  It’s much more than just lip service.

This is the Gospel message:  believe in Jesus…confess him as Lord (if one is true then naturally the other will follow) and the result…you will be saved…nothing more…nothing less needed.

Salvation is no further away than the distance from your heart to your mouth.

Prayer:

Confess Jesus as Lord today.  Believe that he is your Savior.  Receive his great gift of a transformed life.
