NT Quest Day 171 - Romans 8
Scripture: Romans 8: 1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. Observation: This is where God is so cool. The law (the Torah).. first 5 books of the Bible… Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy, Numbers… was given not as a “first attempt” by God to teach his people some general principles about morality. But rather, there was a bigger problem to overcome. God uses the law to reveal to us that we are evil and sinful and in need of rescue. It was about more than just teaching his people a higher standard of morality… it was about rescuing us from sin and death. God is so smart. His people agreed with this law…but couldn’t do it…and as a result were painfully aware of their sin. Application: This is how Paul begins Romans 8. We have been set free. No longer does it have to have a hold on you. It’s good that you are aware of your sin…now rejoice that you have been set free by God’s son. Prayer: Spend some time praising God for the freedom he has given in his son Jesus. Recognize your sin…even now. Apologize for it…and rejoice in the rescue you have received!
