NT Quest Day 169 - Romans 6
Scripture:
Romans 6:
15 Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! 16 Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living. 17 Thank God! Once you were slaves of sin, but now you wholeheartedly obey this teaching we have given you. 18 Now you are free from your slavery to sin, and you have become slaves to righteous living.
Observation:
Did you know Americans are slaves to fear? We are.
We are slaves to fear.
We are slaves to what other people think.
We are slaves to vanity.
We are slaves to money.
We are even slaves to entertainment and apathy.
So…in light of Romans 6 I’d like to talk about freedom. Truth be told though, we all serve one master or another.
Application:
The big question…which master enslaves you?
Christ is the only master that will not only grant you freedom—he is the master that will never fail you, and when you fail him, he will never burn or abuse you in return. All other masters own you and leave you living in fear of failure or punishment. Christ—because of what he did and who he is, leaves you free to live a life of thankfulness and joy—not fear.
Re-read Romans 6…and rejoice that you have been set free…free to be enslaved by the greatest of all Masters. The King of Kings himself.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus I belong to you. A slave to your righteousness at work in me. Grant me the freedom of knowing my life is in your hands…the Lord of Lords, my Master! In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
