NT Quest Day 166 - Romans 3

Scripture:

Romans 3:

3 True, some of them were unfaithful; but just because they were unfaithful, does that mean God will be unfaithful? 4 Of course not! Even if everyone else is a liar, God is true. As the Scriptures say about him,
“You will be proved right in what you say,
and you will win your case in court.” (NLT)

Observation:

Wow.  Romans 3.  Amazing stuff.  It would be easy to go with verse 23 here but I’m going to take a different route.  Take a look at verses 3 and 4.  You can’t argue with the fact that many of the Jews had been unfaithful to God.  You read it time and time again throughout the scripture.  That fact however does not make God any less faithful.  One writer says that “his faithfulness will always outrun our obedience”.

And as the rest of the chapter goes on to point out.  None of us can escape this fact.  Ok…I can’t resist… 23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (NLT)  How can we not talk about this verse?  Even if everyone on this planet were to disagree with God there would be no doubt that he is right.  That he is perfect.  That he is good.  That he is true.  That he is righteous.

And we are not.

Application:

I used to give man the benefit of the doubt.  Could we really be that bad?  As I have gotten older I have come to realize that the sad truth is that we are that bad.  Not only have I seen this in the world around me but in my own life as well.  Thank God that there is a verse 24 in Romans 3.

24 Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

He remains faithful.  Even as we are not.  Even if all the rest of us lie, cheat, and steal…God does not.

He remains true.

Prayer:

Thank God for that truly good news today.
