NT Quest Day 163 - Matthew 28

Scripture:

Matthew 28:

5 Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. 6 He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.

Observation:

How good is the news that Jesus has risen from the dead?  It’s more than good news…It’s the best news.  Here’s a couple of reasons why.

The resurrection reveals God’s power to destroy sin, transform lives, and prepare us for Jesus’ second coming.  It’s a true sign of God’s kingdom here in human history.

The resurrection is proof that death has been conquered.  Those in Christ will rise to eternity with Jesus.  Not only has death been conquered but also the fear of death.  We have great hope!

The resurrection gives authority to our witness.  He is alive!  No other belief system/religion can say that.  No other belief system/religion can make this claim or claim this authority.

The resurrection brings the symbolism of Communion alive.  We now break bread with the risen Savior.  His body was broken.  His blood was shed.  We remember his sacrifice and participate with him in celebration.

The resurrection gives meaning to tragedy.  We now have an amazing hope for our future.  Though still difficult to understand, death is not the end.  There is hope.

The resurrection assures us that Jesus is alive.  He is not myth or legend.  He is real and ruling in his kingdom.

The resurrection offers to us great power.  The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is now available to believers to grow in Christ.  To become like him and do great things in his name.

Application:

Now think about all that we wouldn’t have if the resurrection had never occurred.  Bad news for sure.

How important is the resurrection to Christianity?  It is the one belief…that unites all believers and inspires us to love and follow a Savior who is alive!

That’s more than just good news.  Is it good news for you?

Prayer:

Praise Jesus…He is alive!  He is alive and well.  He is our Savior!  Thank you God for your great power to make that which is dead…alive again.  I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
