NT Quest Day 155 - Matthew 20
Scripture: Matthew 20: She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.” Observation: A Mother’s request. One son at Jesus right and one at his left. Jesus however knows these places are not for him to grant. They would suffer like Jesus did but to be really great meant to serve. That is why Jesus himself came. Application: I got the opportunity this week (quite out of the blue) to serve some kids and their families in one of the poorest zip codes in Memphis. We washed kids feet and gave them brand new shoes and socks and a book bag for school. All in the name of Jesus. Now I don’t mention this to say look at how great I am. I am convinced every day that I am quite the opposite. I mention it to give you some perspective. Jesus said that to be really great meant to serve in his name. After all he didn’t come to be served but to serve. Anytime I consider myself more than I really am…then it’s time to get on my knees and wash someone’s feet. There is a different perspective from that position. One my Savior took…and I need to as well. What about you? Prayer: I am nothing Lord. You are everything. You served me when I didn’t deserve it. Use me to do the same for others…in your name…for your sake. I pray in Jesus name, Amen.
