Scripture:

John 1:

⁶ There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. ⁷ He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. ⁸ He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. ⁹ The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.^[b]

Observation:

John prepares the way for Jesus by testifying about the “light”.  John himself is not the light…Jesus is.  His purpose…to be a witness to that light.  The true light.

Application:

I’ll be the first to admit it.  Sometimes I try to be the “light”.  Not “a light”.  But “the light”.  I try to be Jesus.  You know…the Savior.  The perfect son.  The one with all the answers.  Problem is..that’s not my job…and quite frankly entirely impossible.

My job is just like yours if you follow Christ.  Be a witness “to the light”.  Testify to others about the Savior.  Not be the savior.  There is still much darkness within me.  I cannot help you.  Fortunately the Savior provides the light.  I just need to remember to point you to Him!

Prayer:

Jesus shine in me.  Shine through me.  Help me to remain 2nd.  You are the true light…I am just an earthen vessel.  Use me to testify about your love and grace.  I pray in your name, Amen.
